2002 NATIONAL RETAIL SECURITY SURVEY
Retail loss prevention executives engage in a constant battle to detect and prevent inventory shrinkage. The financial loss of shrinkage is attributed to a combination of employee theft, shoplifting, administrative error, and vendor fraud. Specifically, retailers attributed 80 percent of inventory shrinkage to employee theft and shoplifting, employee theft at 48 percent and shoplifting at 32 percent.
